OUR THREE TOP TIPS TO HEAL THE GUT

A healthy gut is a well fed gut..and unfortunately we don’t mean a gut full of donuts.

Gut health is a consistently hot topic, we all know it’s important but just why and how can sometimes seem a bit overwhelming. We are here to make it simple for you…

The gut is the foundation for everything in the body. When the gut is functioning well, then your body is receiving all the essential vitamins and minerals from the foods that you eat and is able to stay on top of important bodily maintenance. However, if the gut isn’t functioning well then the body becomes depleted of those important nutrients, affecting everything from your energy, to your gorgeous skin, and of course, digestion.

So what exactly is the gut?

This may surprise you but the gut includes everything from the mouth to the… erm, tail end. And it has the very important job of breaking down foods, absorbing nutrients, housing bacteria (the good, the bad and the ugly) and excreting toxins and waste from the body.

This is where our first hot tip comes in…

  1. Keep things fibrous

Two things are needed for the gut to keep things moving along and eliminating waste effectively, water and fibre. We all know the importance of proper hydration but the topic of fibre is quite overlooked - despite it being a crucial part of digestion! There are two different types of dietary fibre, soluble and insoluble fibre. Soluble fibre is a prebiotic fibre that binds to sugars and fats to slow their absorption but can also bind to excess hormones and cholesterol to eliminate them from the body.

This type of fibre also feeds the healthy bacteria living in the gut and is commonly found in foods such as oats, rye, barley and your Frank Simple Collagen Beauty Boost.  Insoluble fibre can be found in all fruits and vegetables and serves the purpose of absorbing water to soften and bulk out your bodily waste.

  1. Embrace the cultured life…of probiotics

Your gut microbiome is a wondrous thing. Did you know that each person has an individualised gut flora, much like a fingerprint, setting you apart from everyone else? OR that you have a ‘second brain’ located in your gut, known as the Enteric Nervous System?! This system controls your whole digestive system and contains about 600 million neurons that are the point of communication between your gut and brain. An out of whack microbiome has been linked to many mental illnesses and even neurodegenerative diseases… So gut health is no joke!

You need a diverse array of bacterial strains in your gut as each one plays  a critical role in keeping digestion functioning optimally, breaking down carbohydrates for energy and producing important vitamins for the body. The best way to improve your good bacteria population is to incorporate probiotics into your daily routine - this is self care in the highest form. We love our Gut Restore Prebiotic Collagen for our daily dose of goodness.

Prebiotics are the important precursor to probiotics - their job is to feed the healthy bacteria and move out any waste and dead bacteria. The probiotics can then increase the healthy population of bacteria and flourish in a well nourished gut.

  1. Invest in your health with a high quality collagen

Gut inflammation and leaky gut syndrome has been on the rise in recent years; this is when the wall of our gut becomes compromised over time from exposure to pesticides, poor diets, alcohol and prolonged stress. These things can sometimes be unavoidable and we have likely all experienced a measure of gut inflammation. This is where the beauty of collagen comes in…

Collagen is the most abundant form of protein found in the human body, it is the very glue that holds it all together. A collagen rich diet has been shown to not just give your skin a gorgeous glow but it can also repair and soothe your gut lining. The amino acids, glycine and glutamine, found within collagen repair and strengthen our gut wall to be able to properly absorb essential nutrients from our foods and calm gut inflammation.

Collagen can be found in foods such as bone broths, sardines, organ meats etc. but for most of us, these aren’t readily available or tasty. We love using our Collagen Beauty Boost or Gut Restore Collagen for some serious gut loving and restoring power.
